Judi Rose

Right from early childhood I loved drawing and painting. Growing up on a small dairy farm in Dorset meant that I spent a lot of time in nature, exploring the surrounding fields and woods, which became the main influence in my art.

In my early twenties I moved to London and felt very fortunate to land a job as a studio manager in the Art department of the City Lit, London’s largest college of adult education, plus a part time job at the V&A. This gave me a fantastic opportunity to combine work with the study of painting and history of art, plus some hands on art practice.

After moving on to teaching for some years and later working as a therapist using my creative skills to enable and empower others, I have now decided to focus on my own art practice purely for enjoyment

I currently live in Albany in Western Australia. From the moment I arrived I immediately fell in love with its wild rugged coastline and huge granite rocks. The surrounding area has a unique eco-biodiversity with ancient mountain ranges and extensive national parks containing species of plants and mammals found nowhere else in the world. As a European here I have found it a fascinating place to explore and have had to learn to see nature in a different way.

I got back into art practice initially by focusing on mandalas and themes of cyclic patterns in nature and had my first solo exhibition of abstract and semi-abstract mixed media mandala paintings in 2016.

Since then there’s been lots of experimenting, working in different ways and with different mediums. The more I got out into the landscape, the more I wanted to paint it.

I regularly take part in group and collaborative exhibitions and sell my work locally and further afield.
